Serving Families and Children

Jeffrey and Janice Wiggins

“It is our strong belief that, in life, each of us has an obligation to give back as much, or more, than we receive.” -
Jeff & Janice Wiggins

Jefferson and Janice Wiggins have been active philanthropists throughout their adult lives. From early careers as public school educators to founding their own private school to serving as board members of nonprofit organizations, the Wiggins’ practice what they preach.

Born in rural Alabama to sharecropper parents, Jeff overcame a childhood of poverty and racism to become an author, educator, lecturer, mentor and community leader. His many honors include an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters from Briarwood College and being named Multicultural Educator of the Year for the State of Connecticut by the National Association for Multicultural Education.

Jeff is past President of the Greater Danbury Coalition for a Community United and a two term member of the New Fairfield Board of Education. He founded and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Wiggins Institute for Social Integrity. The Institute works to address the root causes of moral and social conflict within our society.

Janice is a former teacher with the Newark Public School system. Together with Jeff, she established a private school that initially focused on pre-school education with expansion over the years to include kindergarten through eighth grade. She maintains an active interest in education and programs that expand opportunities for young children. Her professional career has included Marketing and Product Management assignments at AT&T. She recently retired from her position as Vice President of  Product Development at MasterCard International in Purchase, New York. Married for over 30 years, Jeff and Janice have resided in New Fairfield, Connecticut since 1996.

The Big Why - Choosing a Foundation

In 2003, Jeff and Janice made a profound decision and established the Wiggins Fund – a donor-advised fund of the New Fairfield Community Foundation. The Purpose of the Fund is to support not-for-profit educational programs and initiatives. Programs of primary interest to the Wiggins’ are those that benefit children, support multicultural education, diversity or mentoring and initiatives that contribute to building a more open and civil society.
